Schnitker transfers to USI
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team announced that 6-foot-2 guard Tyson Schnitker (Robinson, Illinois) has accepted a scholarship to play for the Screaming Eagles in 2007-08. Schnitker, who will be a graduate student, is transferring from Indiana State University and will have one year of eligibility remaining at the collegiate level.
Schnitker follows Rashard Sullivan as the second graduate student to join the Eagles in as many years.
After sitting out last season, Schnitker resumes his collegiate career at USI. He averaged 7.6 points and 2.1 assists per game in 79 appearances as a Sycamore. Schnitker had his best season as a junior when he started 27 games and averaged 10.3 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.3 assists per contest.
In 2005-06, he had a career-best 24 points in the win at Southern Illinois University and nine rebounds in the win over Central State University.
Schnitker played for Robinson High School (Robinson, Illinois) and Head Coach Gus Gillespie prior to attending Indiana State. He averaged 16.0 points and 7.0 assists as a senior on his way to being named All-Conference and All-Area by the Decatur Herald and Review.
"Tyson solidifies our back court," said USI Head Coach Rick Herdes. "Combining Tyson with Kenny Love and Kenny Page gives us an experienced back court that can do all the little things well – shoot, pass, and drive."
With the addition of Schnitker, the Eagles have five new players for next season, including forwards Norman Plummer (Cincinnati, Ohio), Anthony Pimble (Bronx, New York) and Nate Schumacher (Evansville, Indiana) and guard/forward Nick Duncheon (Montgomery, Indiana) Pimble and Plummer joined the team this week, while Schumacher and Duncheon signed with the Eagles during the fall.
