USI opens regular season against HSSU

Men's Basketball Game Notes

EVANSVILLE, Ind. The University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team will open the 2007-08 regular season campaign Saturday evening when it hosts Harris-Stowe State University at the Physical Activities Center. Game time Saturday is 7:30 p.m.

The USI-HSSU match-up begins a four-game homestand and starts a home schedule that includes 18 home dates.

The Screaming Eagles are coming off a 104-83 exhibition game victory over the Moose Tours Stars last Saturday. The top four USI scorers were not with the team a year ago, led by sophomore guard Darren Cloud's (Evansville, Indiana) 24 points.

Cloud was followed in the scoring column by senior guard Tyson Schnitker (Robinson, Illinois) and junior forward Anthony Pimble (Bronx, New York) with 21 points each, while senior forward Norman Plummer (Cincinnati, Ohio) had 18 points.

The Hornets of HSSU will have two regular season games under their belts by time they visit the PAC on Saturday. HSSU opened the season with a 77-73 victory over Missouri Valley College and plays at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville on November 15 before coming to Evansville.

USI won the first meeting between the two teams last season, winning 117-78 at the PAC. Eagles' sophomore forward/center Brandon Hopf (Ferdinand, Indiana) is USI's top returning scorer from that game with 14 points.
