Gray signs with the Screaming Eagles
EVANSVILLE, Indiana – The University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team announced the signing of Jared Gray, a 6-foot-1 senior guard from Castle High School (Newburgh, Indiana). Gray is the first player to sign with USI and Head Coach Rick Herdes this fall.
Jared Gray will join the USI squad after his final season with the CHS Knights. The second team All-Metro performer averaged 14 points per game as a junior, including a 25-point game against Vincennes Lincoln High School last January. The Newburgh, Indiana, native was ranked 15th among southern Indiana high school players by the Hoosier Hills Hoop Ranking.
"Jared will be an impact player at either the point or shooting guard position," said Herdes. "I feel he has the capability of playing immediately and making as big an impact as any freshman we have ever had. This signing, with the return of Kenny Love, will solidify our backcourt next year.
"Jared verbally committed to us as a junior and honored that commitment today," continued Herdes. "He had numerous Division I teams try to alter the decision he made last year."
The Eagles open the 2007-08 regular season schedule Saturday when they host Harris-Stowe State University for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.
