Box Score

EVANSVILLE, Ind. The University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team shutdown the Missouri Baptist University offense in an 83-39 victory Monday evening at the Physical Activities Center. USI raises its record to 5-2 overall, 4-0 in the six-game homestand, while MBU falls to 3-3.

The 39 Spartan points allowed by the Screaming Eagles was the lowest since 1986-87 when they allowed 36 points in the victory over Manchester College. USI won that game, 111-36.

The Eagles stifled the Spartans' shooting, holding MBU to just 25 percent (17-68) from the field and 19 percent from beyond the arc (4-21). USI also forced MBU into 28 turnovers, making 20 steals and blocking seven shots.

MBU battled USI early in the contest, keeping the Eagles' margin in single-digits for the first 12 minutes of the first half. USI took command and built its lead to 20 points, 41-21, by the intermission on a 20-6 run.

In the second half, USI continued suffocate the MBU offensive attack by holding to Spartans to just 8-of-40 from the field. The Eagles would outscore the Spartans 42-18 in the second half for the 83-39 final.

USI had three players score in double figures, led by the 26-point performance of junior forward Brandon Russ (Cincinnati, Ohio). Russ was 10-12 from the field and six-of-7 from the line to post the best point total by any Eagle this season.

Senior forward Anthony Pimble (Bronx, New York) followed Russ in the scoring column with 14 points, while junior guard Marvin Gray (Bahamas) rounded out the double-figure scorers with 13 points. Gray also had a team-high four assists and four steals.

USI junior forward Tyrone Bradshaw (Cincinnati, Ohio) continued his torrent pace for blocking shots, rejecting four more against MBU. Bradshaw has 25 blocks already this season, compared to 47 as a team last year by the Eagles.

The Eagles conclude the six-game homestand after Thanksgiving when they hosts the Bill Joergens Memorial Tournament at the PAC. The tournament will feature USI, Bellarmine University, King College, and Florida Southern College. Game times each evening is 5:15 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
