USI ranked 8th in Street & Smith

The University of Southern Indiana menís basketball team has been ranked eighth in the Street & Smithís College Basketball 2001-02 Preseason Top 10 released on Monday. This marks the ninth straight season that the Screaming Eagles have been ranked in the preseason.

The Screaming Eagles, who enter the season under new Head Coach Rick Herdes, were 26-4 overall last season and won the Great Lakes Valley Conference regular season title with an 18-2 league record. The Eagles are 209-39 (.843) since 1993-94 and appeared in the NCAA Division II sweet 16 in six of the last eight seasons. USI has the longest running streak of NCAA Division II Tournament appearances, nine since 1992-93.

The Eagles will be led into 2001-02 by senior second team All-GLVC and All-Great Lakes Region forward Marlowe Currie (St. Louis, Missouri), who led USI with 17.0 ppg and 7.6 rpg.
