USI ranked 11th in NABC/Division II Poll
Currie named honorable mention All-American
The University of Southern Indiana menís basketball team was ranked 11th by the National Association of Basketball Coaches and Division II Bulletin in a release on Monday. The Screaming Eagles have been ranked in the preseason nine consecutive seasons.
The Screaming Eagles, who enter the season under new Head Coach Rick Herdes, were 26-4 overall last season and won the Great Lakes Valley Conference regular season title with an 18-2 league record. The Eagles are 209-39 (.843) since 1993-94 and appeared in the NCAA Division II sweet 16 in six of the last eight seasons. USI has the longest running streak of NCAA Division II Tournament appearances, nine since 1992-93.
The GLVC, which has put a team into the national title game each of the last seven seasons, has a total of four teams in the Top 25, including Kentucky Wesleyan College at number one Saint Josephís Collge, 20th and Northern Kentucky University, 25th.
USI senior forward Marlowe Currie (St. Louis, Missouri) was name honorable mention All-American in the release today. Currie, who is USIís top returning scorer with 17.0 ppg and 7.6 rpg a year ago, was second team All-GLVC and Daktronics All-Region a year ago.
