Currie leads Eagles to 45-point rout of Oakland City

Senior forward Marlowe Currie (St. Louis, Missouri) had a game-high 26 points and 13 rebounds to lead the University of Southern Indiana menís basketball team to a 97-52 win over Oakland City University this evening at the Physical Activities Center in Evansville, Indiana.
The Screaming Eagles shot 53.3 percent from the floor and out-rebounded the Mighty Oaks 54-34 as they gained their first win on a Saturday in six attempts, dating back to last season, raised their record to a 6-4 on the season.
USI jumped out to a quick 26-7 lead, but a 17-4 run by the Oaks drew OCU to within six with just under five minutes to play in the first half. The Eagles answered OCUís run with a 12-2 run and headed into the locker room with a 42-28 halftime lead.
Curries scored 16 of his 26 points and the Eagles shot 51.4 percent from the floor in the first stanza.
USI closed the door on OCU early as it opened the second half with a 17-2 run. The Eagles shot 55.3 percent from the floor and held the Oaks to 24.3 percent from the floor in the second stanza. USI outscored the OCU 55-24 in the second period.
Junior forward Diondíre Givens (Mt. Vernon, Indiana) finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds and dazzled the crowd with three monstrous dunks. Sophomore forward Billy Harris (Carbondale, Indiana) added 12 points while senior forward Wes Attebury (Evansville, Indiana) tapped in with 11 points.
The Eagles will be at home Tuesday, December 18 as they take on Abilene Christian University at the Physical Activities Center. Tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
