Chad Werry |
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana men's baseball team had five players named All-GLVC, including four on the first team, in a vote of the conference head coaches. The All-GLVC teams were announced at the GLVC Baseball Banquet Wednesday night.

Alex Thieroff |
Named to the first team were senior outfielder
Chad Werry (New Harmony, Indiana), senior third baseman
Alex Thieroff (Greenfield, Indiana), sophomore right-handed pitcher
Trevor Leach (Danville, Indiana), and senior right-handed closer
Shaun Larsen (Tell City, Indiana). Junior infielder/right-handed pitcher
Tyler Choate (Carmi, Illinois) rounded out the Eagle honorees by being named to the second team as a utility player.
Werry, Thieroff, and Larsen earned All-GLVC honors for the second straight year.
Werry, who was named the March 30 GLVC Player of the Week, is having a career-season, with a .396 batting average, 46 runs scored, 74 hits, 23 doubles, six home runs, and 18 stolen bases. Werry has been hot the last 10 games for the Eagles, batting .421 with nine runs scored and nine RBIs.

Trevor Leach |
Thieroff also is having his best season as an Eagle, hitting .335 with a team-best 48 runs scored, 46 RBIs, and five triples. The March 16 GLVC Player of the Week also is tied for the team lead with eight home runs.
Earning first team honors as a starting pitcher, Leach set a USI single-season record with a 10-0 record on the mound. The sophomore right-hander, who has an 2.85 ERA in 26 appearances and 75.2 innings of work, earned three wins as a starter and seven victories out of the bullpen.

Shaun Larsen |
Picking up where he left off last season, Larsen has repeated as the NCAA Division II's top closer in 2009. The March 30 GLVC Pitcher of the Week has 16 saves and a 5-4 record in 28 appearances this spring. The 16 saves are one short of the USI single-season record Larsen set last year, while his 28 appearances are two short of another season mark.
Earning All-GLVC honors in his first time, Choate has done the job for the Eagles both on the mound and in the infield. He is second on the team in hitting with a .353 batting average and tied for the team lead with eight home runs. The junior also has 45 runs scored and 33 RBIs.

Tyler Choate |
On mound, Choate is second on the team in wins with a 7-3 mark and has a 3.26 ERA in 14 games. He also leads the team with 76 strike outs in 75.2 innings of work. The 76 strike outs are just five short of tying a USI single-season mark. Chaote also was named the February 16 GLVC Pitcher of Week this year.
The Eagles open GLVC Tournament play Thursday when they play Bellarmine University at 3 p.m. The tournament will be played at GCS Ballpark in Sauget, Illinois.
