Stein notches 100th victory as Eagles roll

USI 102, Calumet-St. Joseph's 40

EVANSVILLE, Ind.óFive players scored in double figures as the University of Southern Indiana womenís basketball team rolled to a 102-40 victory against Calumet College of St. Josephís Sunday afternoon at the Physical Activities Center.

The win is the 100th for USI Head Coach Rick Stein, who is the fastest in the programís history after reaching the milestone in just his 151st game at the helm of the Screaming Eagles.

USI (2-0) used a 39-3 run in a 10-minute span to put the game on ice in before the intermission. Senior guard Jamie Truitt (Owensboro, Kentucky) returned from an injury that sidelined her during the preseason and USIís first game to connect on her first three tries from behind the three-point arc.

Truitt had 13 of her 16 points in the opening period as the Eagles took a 55-14 lead into the break.

The Eagles dominated pace of the game, scoring 52 points off 38 CCSJ turnovers. USI recorded a school-record tying 29 steals while committing just 15 turnovers.

Freshman forward Jessica Minnick (Carmi, Illinois) led the Eagles with a game-high 20 points to go with six rebounds, while freshman guard/forward Marshay Jolly (Merrillville, Indiana) had 15 points and a game-high seven steals. Senior forward/center Andrea Engleking (Charlottsville, Indiana) and junior guard Tiara Brown (Normal, Illinois) each chipped in 13 points, while Engleking brought down eight rebounds and Brown dished out a game-high six assists.

Junior forward Ashley Green (Otterbein, Indiana) had a game and career-high 12 rebounds for the Eagles, which had a 48-35 advantage on the boards. Green had 11 rebounds in USIís season-opening victory against the University of Alabama-Huntsville.

The Eagles shot 50.6 percent from the floor, including a 42.9 percent clip from behind the arc, but shot just 65.2 percent in 23 attempts from the charity stripe.

USI will host Robert Morris College (Ill.) Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the PAC. The CCSJ Crimson Wave fall to 3-4 with the loss.
