USI women’s soccer continues quest for berth in GLVC Tournament
EVANSVILLE, IN – The University of Southern Indiana women’s soccer team continues its quest for a berth in the GLVC Tournament when it takes to the road for its final three conference games, beginning with two matches this weekend. USI plays Friday at Lewis University and Sunday at #15 University of Wisconsin-Parkside.
Kick-off for both matches is 2:30 p.m.
The Screaming Eagles (5-9-0, 3-4-0 GLVC) put themselves into the thick of the tournament race by going 1-1 last week. USI lost a heartbreaker to Saint Joseph’s College, 2-1, but bounced back to defeat the University of Indianapolis by the same score.
Sunday’s win over Indianapolis put USI only percentage points out of the last two slots in the GLVC Tournament. At 3-4-0 in the conference, the Eagles are tied with Bellarmine at 3-4-0 and trail Indianapolis and the University of Missouri-St. Louis at 3-3-1. USI has the tie-breaker with both Bellarmine and Indianapolis.
USI junior midfielder Brooklyn Gant (Evansville, Indiana) leads the Eagles with 11 points on a team-best four goals and three assists. Freshman midfielder Julie Collins (Merrillville, Indiana) is second with eight points on three goals and two assists.
The Eagles will visit a struggling Lewis Flyers (2-10-1, 0-6-1 GLVC) team on Friday. Lewis is winless in its last nine matches with a tie at Quincy University last weekend. USI leads the all-time series with Lewis, 5-2-1, and has won the last four matches with the Flyers.
UWP will host the Eagles on Sunday after hosting Kentucky Wesleyan College on Friday. The Rangers, who also are ranked second in the Great Lakes Region, have won seven in a row. USI leads the all-time series, 6-4-0, but UWP has won the last three.
The Eagles will finish the regular season with a conference match at the University of Missouri-St. Louis on October 23 and a non-conference game at Oakland City University on October 26.
