Women's soccer drops exhibition game to Evansville

Southern Indiana: 1
@Evansville: 2

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana women’s soccer team could not make 1-0 halftime lead stand-up and fell 2-1 to the University of Evansville in an exhibition game Sunday evening at Arad McCutchan Stadium.

The Screaming Eagles drew first blood 9:15 to play in the first half when senior forward/midfielder Alisann Shetler (Evansville, Indiana) scored an unassisted goal from 25 yards out. Shetler’s shot went over Aces’ goalkeeper Jessica Sumner, hitting the top right corner and ricocheting in.

USI held onto the 1-0 until the 60:26 mark of the second half when the Aces’ Danielle Brand tied the game. The game winner came 15 minutes later at the 75:44 off the foot of Evansville’s Julie Winkler.

The Eagles start the 2005 campaign for real Friday in Allendale, Michigan, when they play neutral site, regional contest against Ferris State University at 1 p.m. (CDT) in the Grand Valley State Tournament. The squad will complete the first road trip of the year by playing host Grand Valley State University August 28 at noon (CDT).

The first regular season home match is September 3, when Ashland University visits Strassweg Field for a men’s and women’s doubleheader. The women’s game will kick-off the doubleheader at noon.
