USI blasts Oakland City

Womenís Soccer: @University of Southern Indiana (3-7-0): 13
Oakland City University (1-3-0): 2

The University of Southern Indiana womenís soccer team set a school record of goals in a game in the 13-2 victory over Oakland City University Friday night at Strassweg Field. USI, which has won two in a row, raises its record to 3-7-0, while OCU falls to 1-3-0.

The Screaming Eagles broke USIís single game record for goals with 13 and for total points with 38. The old records were against Indiana University/Purdue University Ft. Wayne in 1999 when the Eagles scored 11 goals and 28 total points.

USI was led individually by the record setting performance of sophomore midfielder Darlene Dippel (Evansville, Indiana), who had a record nine points and five assists to go with two goals. The old record for points was seven by Megan Russell against Gardner Webb University in 1998, while the old record for assists was three by Kristi Butler in 1996 and by Stephanie Minor on three different occasions.

Seniors Kayla Scheller (Evansville, Indiana) and Kristen Light (St. Louis, Missouri) tied the USI record for goals in a game with three each. They joined Megan Russell, Kelly Lewis, and Stephanie Minor with three tallies in a contest. Light was already a member of this club, scoring three goals against IPFW last season.

The Eagles will return to action on the road when they travel to Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Sunday, September 30. The game will start at noon. USI will return to Strassweg Field Sunday, October 7, when it hosts the University of Missouri-St. Louis for a GLVC doubleheader beginning at noon.
