Dr. Beckman's topic is cardiac arrhythmia and new treatments for atrial fibrillation. He is the surgical director of Cardiovascular Critical Care at IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
Beckman is a native of Evansville and he completed his undergraduate degree from USI. His medical degree is from IUSM.
The free, public lecture will be on the topic, "Is cardiac repair possible with medicine alone?"
The IU School of Medicine Evansville sponsors the annual Patrick J.V. and Margaret B. Corcoran lecture in memory of its founding director and his wife, a nurse anesthetist. Dr. Corcoran was a professor of medicine at IUSM and assistant dean from 1971 to 1983.
Dr. Beckman also will speak during an invitational luncheon the same day.
