Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science in Political Science - Public and Nonprofit Administration Concentration

The Public and Nonprofit Administration (PNPA) concentration of the University of Southern Indiana's Political Science major will prepare you for a career in managing public and nonprofit organizations.

As a student in the Public and Nonprofit Administration concentration, you will:

  • Take courses in leadership, organizational behavior, human resources, public policy and budgeting
  • Work for government, nonprofit service groups or influencing public policy
  • Gain real management skills that will help you on the job market
  • Receive personal attention from faculty

Jobs in public and nonprofit administration

The nonprofit sector represents over 10% of the American labor force, employing more than 12.5 million workers (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2019). From hospitals to schools to churches and civic organizations, the nonprofits represent the third largest workforce behind retail and manufacturing. Indiana nonprofits employ over 230,000 people and generates over $45 billion in annual revenues. Hoosiers donate about $3 billion to charity every year (3.34% of household income). A career in the nonprofit sector allows you to make a positive difference in your community while earning a competitive wage.


Minor in public and nonprofit administration

Irrespective of your chosen field of study, the PNPA minor will help strengthen your leadership and managerial skills, help you work with budgets and supervise employees. Whether you plan to work as a hospital administrator, for a government agency or an advocacy group, the PNPA minor will be relevant to you.
