USI FIRST LEGO League sponsorships available in Posey County
November 26, 2013
Through a partnership with the Posey County Community Foundation, the SwISTEM Resource Center at the University of Southern Indiana is offering the FIRST LEGO League Sponsorship Program for the 2014 FIRST LEGO League season. Teams from any organization servicing children ages 9‐14 living in Posey County, Indiana, are eligible to apply. Organizations serving minorities and girls are strongly encouraged to apply for this sponsorship. Each team must have an adult coach prior to completing the application.
FIRST LEGO League (FLL) is an alliance between FIRST and the LEGO® Group. The robotics program for 9 to 14-year-olds is designed to get children excited about science and technology, as well as teach them valuable employment and life skills. Teams of up to 10 participants program an autonomous robot (using a LEGO MINDSTORMS® robot set) to score points on a thematic playing surface, and create an innovative solution to a problem as part of their project. The process is guided by the FLL Core Values component.
Each of the five teams selected for this sponsorship program will receive:
- A LEGO MINDSTORMS® EV3 Core Set ($433)
- Robot Training Academy for coaches and team members (five, half‐day sessions at
USI on July 14‐18, 2014)
- FLL Field Kit ($75)
- National FLL Team Registration ($225)
- USI FLL Qualifying Tournament Registration ($45)
- Use of a practice table during the FLL build season
