USI to host third annual informatics conference

The third annual Health Informatics Tri-State Summit (HITS), with the theme, "Connected Communities: Engaging Patients and Providers through Emerging Technologies," will focus on the cutting edge health information and innovative solutions needed to take healthcare delivery to the next level. It will be held Wednesday, January 27, 2016, 8 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. in the University Center at the University of Southern Indiana.

Keynote speaker will be Kym Martin, a three-time, 30-year cancer survivor who is passionate about enhancing the patient experience in healthcare. Martin received her bachelor of science in Business Administration degree from Bryant University and her master of Business Administration degree from the University of Connecticut. She is also a certified holistic nutrition consultant and fitness trainer who fashioned an integrative approach for her personal cancer management. Prior to embarking on her career as patient opinion leader and national speaker, Martin enjoyed success in her role as a consultative sales executive and business development leader for various technology and software development firms.

Additional speakers at HITS will touch on emerging trends in the use of health information technology in direct patient care related to social media, the health information exchange, predicting clinical outbreaks and more.

HITS will be relevant to physicians, nurses, pharmacists, informaticists, health information technologists, medical practice managers, healthcare managers, health professionals, students and others whose scope of practice is related to health informatics.

Joint Providers include University of Southern Indiana College of Nursing and Health Professions, Indiana HIMSS (Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society), and St. Mary's Medical Center.
