Nashville artists selected for exhibition at New Harmony Gallery

May 17, 2016

The University of Southern Indiana's New Harmony Gallery of Contemporary Art is hosting an exhibition, Nashville Infusion, through June 4. The exhibit is comprised of work from Nashville-based artists recommended by Griffin Norman, New Harmony resident and Contemporary Advisory Board member, who has worked as a designer and photographer in Nashville for over 30 years. A closing reception will be held at 4 p.m. June 4 featuring Nashville musicians, the Mystery Twins. The exhibit and closing reception are free and open to the public.

Seven artists whose work creates a dialogue through aesthetic and conceptual elements were selected from a larger pool by Norman. The exhibition is meant to be a small sample of the culturally vibrant Nashville community. Artists showcasing both visual and performance art in the exhibition and reception include: Roger Clayton, John Donovon, Lanie Gannon, Brady Haston, Tim Hooper, Mark Hosford, Julia Martin and The Mystery Twins (Doug Lehmann and Stephanie Brush).

"This exhibition reflects the curatorial strategies of the New Harmony Gallery of Contemporary Art," said Garry Holstein, director of the gallery. "Exhibits are curated based on the three primary goals of providing opportunity, creating dialogue and building connectivity within the region."

The gallery strives to create an accessible atmosphere for the audience to view and discuss contemporary art. It also encourages collaboration by building connections between the regional and national artist communities. This year, the gallery also has curated exhibitions of work from St. Louis-based artists.

The exhibit is made possible in part through support from the Indiana Arts Commission and the National Endowment for the Arts.

The New Harmony Gallery of Contemporary Art is a program within USI Outreach and Engagement and is located at 506 Main Street in New Harmony, Indiana. Regular hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. For more information, contact Garry Holstein, director, at 812-682-3156 or visit USI.edu/nhgallery.
