Why are Student Media Important?

Student-run publications are vital to the University community and culture by providing information and opinions about campus, local and world events. These publications and media outlets also allow students to build their journalism, design, communication and radio skills before they enter the workforce, often winning awards while they do so. In 2024 alone, our students have won over 30 awards for their work in student publications and media.

FishHook

FishHook is the University of Southern Indiana's art and literary magazine, showcasing the top poetry, fiction, nonfiction and visual art of USI students.

The Shield

The Shield is the student publication of the University of Southern Indiana, established in 1968. Students are responsible for all reporting, writing, photography, editing, designing and ad sales.

Streaming Eagles Studio

The Streaming Eagles Studio is the home of Access USI, our weekly live news, sports, and music production, as well as other student developed and produced programming.

The Spin

95.7 The Spin (WSWI), formerly known as The Edge, is the student-run radio station of the University of Southern Indiana. Students manage, produce, and host programming for the station.

Candid

Candid Magazine is a student-run biannual publication focusing on art, fashion and editorial. This magazine gives students the opportunity to create content outside the classroom and focus on ideas and issues that interest them. Our students come from all parts of the university community and work together as a professional group to write stories, produce photo shoots, create interesting illustrations and artworks, and design dynamic layouts that compile this professional magazine. Pick up copies of Candid in the Arts Center in the second-floor hallway beside AC 242.
