Degrees and Programs
The English Department at USI is unique in that it offers the option of either a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science in all four of its major concentrations, Creative Writing, English Teaching, Literature, or Professional Writing and Rhetoric.

Students interested in graduate study may pursue a Master of Arts in English. The program is comprised of 30 credit hours of coursework leading to a Master of Arts degree in English. The program includes 12 credit hours in English core classes, 15 credit hours in additional English classes, and 3 credit hours of a capstone project including a research paper and presentation at an end-of-semester Capstone Symposium.
Core 39
In addition to the departmental degree requirements, undergraduate students must complete the University Core 39. Our core provides the foundation for all baccalaureate degrees at the University of Southern Indiana. A university education prepares individuals to live wisely in a diverse and global community by helping students acquire both discipline-specific competence and broader knowledge and skills that reach across disciplines.
