Bio

Steven Casement is an Assistant Professor in the History Department at the University of Southern Indiana.  Dr. Casement joined USI in 2024 after completing his Ph.D in Early Modern Global History at The Pennsylvania State University.  Specializing in transnational connections, particularly including the Early Modern and British Atlantic worlds, Casement teaches courses in world history, as well as Medieval, Early Modern, and Modern European history.  His research explores the intricacies of Anglo-Spanish diplomatic negotiation, empire-building, and colonialism during the era of the English monarchy’s Restoration in the seventeenth century.  His sources surround topics such as diplomatic letter-writing, transnational go-betweens, state envoys, diplomatic women, international environmental history, and confessionalism during the Early Modern period.
