Fine Arts, BFA - Illustration Concentration Overview

The Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree with a major in Art offers students the opportunity to delve deeply into various artistic practices while exploring a wide range of art historical and theoretical approaches. As a professional degree, it enables students to investigate visual and aesthetic discourse both within their own artistic practice and in the broader context of history and contemporary culture. The BFA program dedicates 65% of your total degree curriculum to studio courses, art history, and supportive courses in art and design. 

Studying illustration at USI is more than just learning about visual storytelling. You will gain technical and creative skills through coursework in drawing and composition before moving to advanced digital illustration techniques taught in our state-of-the-art Wacom Cintiq lab. Upper-level courses in Digital Painting, Narrative Illustration, and Conceptual Illustration allow you to explore traditional and contemporary techniques while developing your own individual illustrative style and vision. Additionally, you will develop the critical thinking, creative problem-solving, and professional practice skills necessary to enter the illustration profession.
