Important Program Update
The Anthropology major is transitioning to an Anthropology concentration within the History and Anthropology major. Current students declared in the Anthropology major may complete their degree as planned. Students wishing to enter the standalone Anthropology major must start the program by January 11, 2027. After that date, all new students will be admitted to the Anthropology concentration within the History and Anthropology major.
Studying anthropology at USI will offer you the opportunity to gain insight into human diversity and variation from the perspectives of culture, biology, archaeology and language. The program challenges you to think critically about how we as humans adapt to our environment and the ways in which questions about humanity are central to our understanding of the diverse world in which we live. You will take courses taught by highly qualified Ph.D. faculty who are recognized nationally and internationally for their expertise. Anthropology complements other scientific and liberal arts courses by helping students understand how people and their cultures are interconnected. You will find an abundance of hands-on experience including internships, study abroad opportunities and field programs.
Additional credit hours could indicate a second major, minor, or certificate. A minimum of 120 credit hours is required to graduate.

Anthropology is uniquely suited to provide you with critical reading and writing skills as well as an appreciation and awareness of cultural diversity. These qualities are widely sought by a variety of employers in both the public and private sector. Courses provide global information and thinking skills critical to such fields as international business and law, public health, human resources, teaching, advocacy and public service. There is a growing need for analysts and researchers with sharp thinking skills who can manage, evaluate, and interpret the large volume of data on human behavior. The global job market of the 21st century is seeing an increasing demand for anthropological training and requires the type of global, holistic knowledge an anthropological perspective brings. USI Anthropology graduates have also been successful at gaining admission into graduate programs.
