Public History Microcredential Overview

Make history your career

Whether you're a history student curious about careers beyond the classroom, a working professional looking to deepen your expertise, or someone returning to school to formalize your skills, history isn't just something to read about. It's something to curate, digitize, preserve, and share, and this micro-credential gives you the tools, experience, and credentials to do exactly that.

Indiana's first public history microcredential, offered through USI's Department of History in the College of Liberal Arts, introduces students to the research, methods, and tools used across diverse public history settings, including museums, archives, historic sites, and libraries.

What can a public history microcredential do for you? Students pursuing a history degree will find hands-on career preparation built right in. Those already working in the field can formalize their expertise and deepen their knowledge. And anyone passionate about history who is ready to do something meaningful with it will find a clear, accessible path forward.
