Important Program Update
The Art major - Studio concentration is transitioning to a Visual and Performing Arts major - Studio concentration. Current students declared in the Art major may complete their degree as planned. Students wishing to enter the standalone Art major must start the program by January 11, 2027. After that date, all new students will be admitted to the Studio concentration within the Visual and Performing Arts major.
Studying studio art at USI gives you the opportunity to fulfill your creative potential alongside other like-minded creatives. You can choose to concentrate on painting, sculpture, printmaking, drawing, woodworking, ceramics, or jewelry. Each area focuses on teaching critical thinking skills, crafting tangible objects (both functional and non-functional) and offers concrete skills in professional practice. The studio art program will strengthen your competence of both traditional and contemporary art with an academically rich foundation of art theory and art history. Working in state-of-the art labs and studios, students can explore and understand different artistic techniques and concepts while developing their individual artistic style.
Additional credit hours could indicate a second major, minor, or certificate. A minimum of 120 credit hours is required to graduate.

Once USI has processed your application, transcript(s) and scores (if needed), a decision will be made by Undergraduate Admissions and you will receive a notification.
Upon acceptance to USI, you'll receive detailed information about next steps, including orientation, registration and housing.
Outside of the classroom, you will have opportunities to visit major art museums in Chicago, New York and abroad. Visiting artists, designers, and scholars allows you to have impactful learning experiences beyond the classroom.
