About the New Harmony Book Award & Residency

The University of Southern Indiana has an over 30-year history of promoting the literary arts in New Harmony, Indiana, and due to generous support from the USI Foundation, the College of Liberal Arts, and the English Department, this relationship continues with the inaugural New Harmony Book Award & Residency. Our goal is to celebrate an exemplary work of fiction published in 2025 and also award the winning writer time and space to work on their next project.

Students in the Literary Editing and Publishing Minor at USI will assist the NHBA Coordinator, Dr. Casey Pycior, in selecting the short list and winning book.

The short list will be announced April 1st, followed by the winner on April 15th.

The winning writer will be awarded a $2000 prize and a 7-day Residency in New Harmony, Indiana in the summer of 2026. A travel stipend of $750 will also be awarded.
