The University of Southern Indiana has an over 30-year history of promoting the literary arts in New Harmony, Indiana, and due to generous support from the USI Foundation, the College of Liberal Arts, and the English Department, this relationship continues with the New Harmony Book Award & Residency. Our goal is to celebrate an exemplary work of fiction published in a calendar year (2027 award is for books published in 2026, 2026 award was for books published in 2025, etc.) and also award the winning writer time and space to work on their next project.
Students in the Literary Editing and Publishing Minor at USI will assist the NHBA Coordinator, Dr. Casey Pycior, in selecting the short list and winning book (see English 399 Special Topics for details).
The short list will be announced in early April followed by the winner in mid-April.
The winning writer will be awarded a $3000 prize and a 7-day Residency in New Harmony, Indiana. A travel stipend of $750 will also be awarded.
