SwISTEM offers fifth annual GO STEM! camp for girls
The University of Southern Indiana's SwISTEM Resource Center within the Pott College of Science, Engineering, and Education, is offering the fifth annual GO STEM! summer camp that allows high school girls to explore Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields.
GO STEM! will be held from June 7-11. Participants will stay on the USI campus in residence halls learning communities. Each community will have a female undergraduate student mentor who will help with various activities and provide girls with guidance and networking connections. One highlight of the camp is a learning excursion to Holiday World.
Former mentor Kayley Pemberton, a senior biology and chemistry major, said, "GO STEM is important in building girls' confidence in STEM fields, while letting them discover just how fun science is. It also gives them the ability to connect with other girls who are interested in the same things from all across the state of Indiana. I really enjoy getting to see the girls make new discoveries and learn."
GO STEM! is open to girls in grades 9-12. The cost of the camp is $130. Applications are available until May 9 at swistem.org. For more information, contact Allison Grabert, director, at afgrabert@usi.edu or 812-228-5019.
