USI unveils 50th anniversary timeline on campus
February 2, 2015
The University of Southern Indiana unveiled a large, permanent, wall-mounted timeline February 2 in the Wright Administration Building across from the McCutchan Exhibition Space. The timeline features a colorful collection of photographs, significant dates, logos and other information tracking USI's 50 years of history, from its beginning as Indiana State University-Evansville in 1965, to the present.
USI President Linda L.M Bennett, along with the help of Byron C. Wright, the building's namesake, unveiled the timeline and shared remarks about USI's history and 50th anniversary with invited guests.
"This timeline is a physical representation of our history, marking key events, points of expansion on our campus and academic successes," Bennett said. "We hope this photographic display will engage our students and visitors in learning about our rich history of diversity and perseverance. All of this has been possible only because of the amazing support of many people in this community."
The timeline was designed and installed by Signarama Evansville sign and graphics company, and helps kick off a year of events celebrating USI's 50th anniversary. More about USI's 50th anniversary, including an interactive timeline and a full schedule of events throughout 2015, can be found online at www.USI.edu/50.
In addition to the timeline, "Traditions and Icons: 50 Years of USI Culture," an exhibit of USI memorabilia from the past 50 years, is on display in the McCutchan Exhibition Space in the Wright Administration Building throughout the spring 2015 semester.
