45th annual student art awards will be announced Sunday

Juried Student Art Exhibition on display through May 3

The University of Southern Indiana's 45th Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition is on display through May 3 in the McCutchan Art Center/Pace Galleries, located in the lower level of the Liberal Arts Center at USI.

Over $7,500 in merit awards, scholarships, and purchase awards, generously donated by area businesses and individuals, will be announced at a free public reception from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 29. The award winners will be announced at 3 p.m.  

Matthew Neil Gehring '98, a special juror in honor of USI's 50th anniversary, selected the artworks for the exhibit. An Evansville native, Gehring graduated from North High School and holds a bachelor's degree in art from USI and Master of Fine Arts degree from University of Delaware.

He is the chair of the Visual Arts Department and director of the Flecker Gallery at Suffolk County Community College in Long Island, New York. For the USI Juried Student Art Exhibition, he chose 148 works of art from 445 created by USI students in the last year.

The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.

The McCutchan Art Center/Pace Galleries is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free. Call 812-228-5006 for more information.
