Internet sensation, Laci Green to speak at USI about rape culture

Sex education activist and video blogger Laci Green will speak at the University of Southern Indiana at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, in Carter Hall in the University Center West. Her topic will be "Taking Down Rape Culture." In her presentation, Green examines cultural attitudes and reactions to popular videos and pop culture references concerning sexual violence and female objectification.
The presentation will define rape culture, uncover forces which encourage it, and seek to find solutions to combat rape culture and replace it with one reinforcing consent.
Green, 25, graduated with honors from the University of California, Berkeley, and holds a certificate in rape and dating violence counseling. She tours the United States speaking about sex education to high school and college students. She is known for her popular YouTube videos and sex education show, Sex + (Plus), as well as MTV's Braless. She also is an educator and consultant for Planned Parenthood, Discovery and MTV Act. Her work has been highlighted on CBS, ABC, Dr. Phil, The Science Channel, The Atlantic Magazine, Ms. Magazine, The Huffington Post, Upworthy and others.
The event is free and open to the public.
