USI, SWI-AHEC partner with EVSC for Public Health Camp
The Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation's Southern Indiana Career and Technical Center (SICTC), in collaboration with Southwest Indiana Area Health Education Center (SWI-AHEC), is hosting a one-week summer public health camp, Go Viral: Be a Disease Detective, for students currently in the seventh or eighth grade in Gibson, Spencer, Posey, Vanderburgh and Warrick counties who are interested in exploring epidemiology and careers in public health. The camp will be held from 8 a.m. to noon, June 8-12, 2015, at SICTC with one day at USI.
Dr. Erin Reynolds, assistant professor of health services in the College of Nursing and Health Professions at the University of Southern Indiana, developed the curriculum for the camp, which will help participants learn about basic epidemiology, disease outbreak investigation, disease tracking, integration of public health with medical care, and career opportunities. Participants will conduct an outbreak investigation, as well as interact with public health professionals.
The cost for the summer camp is $20 per participant. To register, visit SICTC's website and click on the Camp Registration Form link at the bottom of the page. Individuals interested in participating in the camp should register by April 10, 2015.
