Berger Lecturer is Fulbright scholar from South Africa

The University of Southern Indiana's Center for Interdisciplinary Studies hosts the 2015 Berger Lecture featuring Dr. Venicia McGhie at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, in the David L. Rice Library auditorium, located in the library's lower level. Her lecture is titled, "The Transformation Process in Education in South Africa: Pre- and Post-1994."

McGhie is the recipient of the prestigious Fulbright post-doctoral scholarship, working with first-year students at the University of Missouri-St. Louis through September of this year. Since October 2014, she has worked in student support and development at UMSL, evaluating intervention programs developed to improve pass and retention rates among undergraduate students.

She is on the faculty of Economic and Management Sciences in the Department of Academic Development at University of West Cape, Cape Town, South Africa. She holds a doctorate in higher education from University of Stellenbosch, South Africa.

The Berger Lecture Series remembers and honors Sydney Berger, who was one of Evansville's most respected attorneys. He worked with local labor and civil rights organizations and taught at USI for nearly two decades. The College of Liberal Arts celebrates the values he cherished by having a speaker each year speak on the theme of civil rights or civil liberties.
