SWIRCA, USI again partner for Senior Games
May 11, 2015
The University of Southern Indiana is again partnering with SWIRCA & More for the Indiana State Games (formerly called the Indiana Senior Games) May 14-22. Games will be held at USI and througout the city. For the game schedule, go to www.usi.edu/media/4228472/Senior-Games.pdf.
SWIRCA is excited to announce that a local Evansville family has been chosen to be spotlighted by the National Senior Games Association. Carl Horstman and his family will be honored with a "Personal Best Award" by CEO Marc Riker on Thursday, May 14, at SWIRCA & More. This award will be part of the "Celebration of Athletes" Dinner that begins the annual Indiana State Games. The dinner, which will begin at 5 p.m., will have over 200 people in attendance.
Each year representatives from the National Senior Games travel the country to award a handful of inspiring athletes with the "Personal Best" Award. One of this year's lucky recipients is Evansville's Horstman family. The head of the Horstman family, Carl or "Pop" began bowling in the National State Games in 1989 at the age of 68. His love for bowling and The Games transcended to his children even after his death with six family members competing throughout the years. Pop participated in every National Games from 1989 to 2007 when he bowled his last game at 90 years old. On Thursday, the entire Horstman's family will be recognized in honor of Carl and his lasting tribute.
