USI achieves new health education credentialing status

The University of Southern Indiana's Online Continuing Education for Health Professionals department has achieved accreditation by the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc. (NCHEC) as a Multiple Event Provider (MEP) of Continuing Education for Health Education Credentialing. This accreditation is good for four years, running from July 1, 2015 to June 30, 2019.

"We are now an approved continuing education provider for anyone who has the Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) credential from NCHEC," said Dr. Ann White, dean of the USI College of Nursing and Health Professions. The MEP designation authorizes USI to utilize NCHEC credentials without the need for a per course authorization for all conferences and workshops and online continuing education courses, including the Health Promotions and Worksite Wellness Certificate Program.

"This is the first year for the Multiple Event Provider, but we have held single event provider (SEP) accreditation with this organization since 2012," said White. "We can now utilize this credential to advance more areas of study for our students and open opportunities that may not have existed previously."

The National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc. is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to enhance the professional practice of health education by promotion and sustaining a credentialed body of health education specialists. To meet this mission, NCHEC certifies health education specialists, promotes professional development and strengthens professional preparation and practice.
