Live bands, good food, fun and friends round out USI's Party on The Quad

Members of the USI Alumni Association show off the 2016 Party on The Quad T-shirts.

How much would it cost to see three live bands, have a delicious meal and participate in a host of fun activities, all while catching up with old classmates and friends? How about $10; plus a free commemorative T-shirt if you register by May 11!

You'll find all this and more at USI's second annual Party on The Quad. The USI Alumni Association will host the party from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday, June 11 on The Quad. The event is open to USI alumni, employees, retirees, friends and USI students age 21 and older. The generosity of donors has made ticket prices a bargain, making a fun entertaining evening outdoors affordable for everyone.

"Party on The Quad is a time to bring people together on campus," said Janet Johnson, director of Alumni and Volunteer Services. "I enjoy seeing everyone, listening to stories, sharing memories and seeing the reactions from people who haven't seen the campus for a while."

This year, guests will enjoy Mark's BBQ along with sides, lemonade, tea or beverages from a cash bar. Both vegetarian and gluten-free options will be available as well, and should be specified during registration.

Activities include a selfie photo booth, caricature portraits, corn hole, photo-ops with Archie the Eagle and tours of campus. The Campus Store will also be open to stock up on USI logo wear. The event is rain or shine. In the case of rain, the event will be held at USI's Physical Activities Center.

Featured bands this year include:

Boscoe France

Boscoe France is a bluesy, slide guitarist and vocalist from Madisonville, Kentucky. He was awarded first prize in the National Guitar Center King of the Blues Challenge. He has opened for blues legend, B.B. King and has played festivals across the United States. His music is a fusion of the blues, rock, country and soul.

Osiella

Local band, Osiella, incorporates a range of musical inspiration. A blend of folk, rock and African rhythm courtesy of guitarist, Theophilus Akai, hailing originally from West Africa, provides the foundation for singer/songwriter, Cynthia Murray. With influences in gospel, folk, reggae, classical and rock music; the band brings an eclectic sound to audiences across the states.

The Flatheads

The Flatheads are comprised of Tim Piazza on mandolin, Mike Rodenberg on bass, and Randy Pease, retired USI instructor of English, on acoustic guitar. Classic rock, Irish music, bluegrass, jazz and country all serve as inspiration to these local favorites.

Take a break from your busy schedule and gather with colleagues, former classmates, faculty and friends for a night of food, music and fun.
