New Harmony Gallery opens new ceramics exhibition: Functional Relationships
May 1, 2017
The New Harmony Gallery of Contemporary Art is hosting a new ceramics exhibition, free and open to the public until May 27. A closing reception for Functional Relationships will be held at the Gallery from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 27th.
Functional Relationships focuses on groups of functional objects that have visual and/or utilitarian harmony. Salt and pepper shakers, sake sets, tea sets, and cream and sugar dispensers are just a few examples of the groupings that form functional sets in the exhibition.
This exhibition was organized in collaboration with Alisa Holen, University of Southern Indiana assistant professor of Ceramics. The show features local, regional and national artists providing an excellent sample of contemporary functional ceramics in the United States. Juror Simon Levin, selected 20 groupings from over 100 submissions.
Simon Levin is a full-time studio potter specializing in wood-fired utilitarian ceramics. Levin owns Mill Creek Pottery in Wisconsin, where he maintains an apprenticeship program. Levin is a kiln builder, writer and exhibits his work internationally. He received his MFA in ceramics from the University of Iowa.
Artists selected for the exhibition include: Holen, Lakyn Bowman, Douglas Browe, Ian Connors, Adrienne Eliades, Lynne Hobaica, Lucien M. Koonce, Norleen Nosri, Brent Pafford, Joshua Primmer, Ali Saunders, Stephanie Seguin, Chance Taylor, Iren Tete, Matthew Wargel and Zachary Wollert.
