USI CubeSat team honored with resolution at Statehouse

The University of Southern Indiana UNITE CubeSat team traveled to Indianapolis on Tuesday, March 5, 2019, to be honored with a concurrent resolution by the Indiana General Assembly at the Statehouse.
The resolution reads:
Whereas, The University of Southern Indiana Undergraduate Nano Ionospheric Temperature Explorer (UNITE) CubeSat project began in 2016 and is funded by National Aeronautics and Space Administration's (NASA's) Undergraduate Student Instrument Project;
Whereas, The UNITE CubeSat is a small research satellite and was designed, built, integrated and tested by undergraduate students at the University of Southern Indiana;
Whereas, On December 5, 2018, the UNITE CubeSat was launched on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station as part of cargo sent to the International Space Station;
Whereas, After arriving at the International Space Station, the UNITE CubeSat was ejected into orbit on January 31, 2019, where it will orbit the Earth for almost 15 months collecting plasma and temperature data while the CubeSat's orbital decay is carefully tracked; and
Whereas, Under the direction of Dr. Glen Kissel, Associate Professor of Engineering, the UNITE CubeSat is the first complete spacecraft designed, built and flown by a public institution in the State of Indiana: Therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana, the House of Representatives concurring:
That the Indiana Senate recognizes the UNITE CubeSat project team at the University of Southern Indiana and congratulates the team on their success.
