Paulino to deliver address at USI Spring 2023 College of Liberal Arts Commencement Ceremony

The speaker for the College of Liberal Arts Ceremony is Virgilio Paulino, 2018 Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Philosophy graduate. After earning two undergraduate degrees from USI in 2018, he obtained a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Indiana University Maurer School of Law in 2021. 

Paulino currently serves as Manager of Data Management, Sharing and Privacy at Capital One in Wilmington, Delaware. In his position, he is responsible for overseeing and directing critical risk work pertaining to enterprise-level data initiatives. This includes not only the development and improvement of processes and controls related to data management, but also those that address issues of data sharing and privacy. His role involves closely monitoring the implementation of changes to these processes and controls in order to ensure both compliance and operational efficiency. Additionally, Paulino places great emphasis on building and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders. 

Alongside current responsibilities, Paulino is an active member of the Bar Association of the District of Columbia and the International Association of Privacy Professionals. He is also a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) which attests to his expertise and understanding of privacy laws and regulations. 

Prior to his role at Capital One, Paulino served as an Associate in Privacy Compliance at JPMorgan Chase & Co. from 2021 to 2023. Here, he conducted legal research on privacy laws, assessed privacy and data risk, and supported the development and enhancement of processes related to data management and privacy. 

In addition to his work in the financial services industry, Paulino interned as a Law Clerk at Indiana Legal Services, Inc. from 2019 to 2021, working on cases involving low-income residents in need of legal assistance, and he served as a Judicial Extern at both the United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana and the Indiana Court of Appeals. Paulino worked as a Summer Associate at Old National Bank in 2019, conducting legal research on various banking regulations and drafting memoranda. 

While in law school, Paulino was an active member of the Indiana Journal of Global Legal Studies where he peer-reviewed journal articles focused on the intersections of global and domestic regimes, markets, politics, technologies and cultures. Paulino was also a member of the Incarcerated Individuals Legal Assistance Project, providing pro bono legal services to incarcerated individuals. He was also involved with Admissions Student Ambassadors and Business Law Society organizations. 

During his time at USI, Paulino was a member of various student organizations, including Student Ambassadors, Student Government Association and Pre-Law Club. He also served as a Resident Assistant for Housing and Residence Life. 

Paulino received numerous awards, including the USI President's Medal, the highest honor bestowed to a graduate in their respective class. Paulino was also awarded the USI All-Campus Achievement Award and USI Provost Top Student Leader Award, among others.
