The University of Southern Indiana Romain College of Business held its 2025 High School Business Day Case and Scholarship Challenge, sponsored by the USI Accounting Circle, on Wednesday, November 12. This year’s event saw a record-breaking number of 195 participants with high school students from 13 schools across Indiana and Kentucky.
High schools in Indiana included Evansville Bosse, Castle, Evansville Central, Evansville Christian School, Gibson Southern, Families First Home Educators, Mater Dei, North Harrison, Evansville North, North Posey, Princeton Community and Wood Memorial. Henderson County high school in Henderson, Kentucky, also participated.
“This year’s High School Business Day was the most competitive to date,” says Dr. Thomas Noland, Chair of the Accounting and Finance Department and Professor of Accounting. “I want to thank the teachers and students for attending and a special thank you goes out to the faculty, accounting professionals and USI students who make this event a success.”
The event featured a case competition where student teams were given a challenging real-world business problem. They presented solutions to a panel of judges made up of faculty, USI students and business professionals. Because of the volume of teams competing, judging was split by random drawing into two divisions. First place teams split $750 between members and earned $250 for their high school.

Students, along with parents and teachers, had the opportunity to interact with student organizations from the Romain College of Business, have professional headshots taken with the Career Success Center and tour the USI campus. They also got to interact with eye-tracking glasses, a part of the Biometrix Discovery Lab in the Romain College of Business, while in Carter Hall.
Students also listened to and talked with current USI business students Madison Heil, Emma Jacob, Alex Perry, Rosa Pund and Michael Solliday, who discussed their experiences on a student panel. Additionally, they were invited to listen to local professionals, USI alums Andrea Metcalf '17, Ryan Clark '18 and Michael Carroll '88, discuss their professional careers.
"Over the last two years, the USI Business Day competition has been one thing I have continued to look forward to,” says Aiden Huebner, senior at Evansville North. “Not just because of the opportunity to tour the USI campus, but also because of the amazingly nice people and staff I meet whenever I'm there. I'm glad that USI is giving high school students the opportunity to come to their campus and compete in competitions that will continue to prepare them for the future."
The event allowed high school educators to see their students experience what they’ve been preparing for in classes and recognize the impact of the event.
