December 17, 2025

The University of Southern Indiana will host a presentation by Dr. Sheila Huff, former Director of Strategic Engagements for the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation (EVSC), honoring the memory and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. as part of its annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Celebration Luncheon. The event will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, January 19 in Carter Hall, located in University Center West. Doors will open at 10:15 a.m. The presentation is open to the public, but tickets are required to attend.

A dedicated educator and Evansville leader, Huff has built a distinguished career rooted in academic excellence and service. A graduate of Indiana State University, she earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in physical education and health, later adding certification in secondary administration and supervision. In 2023, the University of Evansville recognized her profound contributions to education and the community by awarding her a Doctor of Humane Letters.

Huff’s career with the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation spans decades and reflects a steady rise in leadership. She spent more than 20 years at Bosse High School as a teacher, coach and assistant athletic director before transitioning into administration at Glenwood Middle School, where she served as assistant principal and later principal. She went on to lead Bosse High School as principal for nearly a decade and then served as EVSC Director of Strategic Engagements from 2018–23. Alongside her K–12 leadership, she taught as an adjunct professor at USI for more than 25 years, influencing future educators and health professionals.

An active and respected community advocate, Huff has served on numerous boards, including the USI Foundation Board of Directors, the Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library Board, Habitat for Humanity, the Evansville Police Department Foundation and Leadership Everyone. Her service has been recognized through an extensive list of honors, among them the Sagamore of the Wabash, Athena Award, Hidden Figures Award, Leadership Evansville Lifetime Achievement Award and multiple Educator of the Year distinctions.
