MAC/Pace Galleries to present exhibit Kismet & Control
The University of Southern Indiana Kenneth P. McCutchan Art Center/Palmina F. and Stephen S. Pace (MAC/Pace) Galleries is pleased to present Kismet & Control by Jesse Ly and Rachael Banks from Wednesday, September 9 to Friday, October 30.
Kismet & Control is a survey of works that examine the parallel practice and process of Rachael Banks and Jesse Ly. A space of vulnerability and narrative are intertwined through their varied documented lived experiences. They both operate through photographic procedures focused towards holding and shaping their environments—while consistently relinquishing to chance. This balance observes the give and take they are forced to carry out, making meaning via fate. Through documentary and staged familial interactions, interstitial moments, and adapted symbolism and iconography, Banks and Ly navigate the chances of circumstances and what they come to construct with them.
A closing reception for the exhibition will be held at the MAC/Pace from 4:30-6 p.m. on Thursday, October 29. The MAC/PACE Gallery, located on the lower level of the Liberal Arts Center, is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and Sunday. The programming for the Mac/Pace Galleries is made possible by Charitable gifts to the USI Foundation from alumni, friends and employees.
