USI Theatre presents The Old Man and the Old Moon
University of Southern Indiana Theatre continues its 2026-2027 season with its second main stage performance of the year, The Old Man and The Old Moon. Performances will run Thursday through Sunday, October 29-November 1 at the Franklin Theatre, located in the USI Performance Center. Shows start at 7 p.m. Thursday, October 29 and Friday, October 30 and 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 31 and Sunday, November 1 for the matinee.
With book, music and lyrics by PigPen Theatre Company, The Old Man and The Old Moon will become the second main stage production to be directed by a USI Theatre student, Senior Brecken Maddox.
The Old Man has kept his post as the sole caretaker of the moon for as long as he (or his wife, the Old Woman) can remember. When she is drawn away by a mysterious melody that sparks memories of their shared past, the Old Man must decide between duty (and routine) and love (and adventure). Luckily for audiences everywhere, he chooses the latter, and what follows is an imaginative sea-faring epic, encompassing apocalyptic storms, civil wars, leviathans of the deep, cantankerous ghosts and the fiercest obstacle of all: change.
Joining Maddox on the artistic team are Dani Scott, Lecturer in Dialect, Faculty Mentor; Jaddyn Sage, Lecturer in Dance, Movement Director; Eric Altheide, Professor of Theatre, Fight Choreographer; Tom Drury, Senior Instructor in Music, Musical Director; Emma Marshall ’27 and John Merritt, Assistant Professor of Theatre, Costume Designers; Paul Weimer, Program Manager, Scenic Designer; JT Baumeyer, Facilities Coordinator, Sound Designer; Matthew Ishee, Assistant Professor of Theatre, Lighting Designer; and Jacob Reynolds, Theatre Technical Coordinator, Technical Director.
The story is told by a cast of eight actors who swap between various roles, challenging the students to think on their feet and adapt quickly to each scene. Cast members include Reagan Foray ’28 (Jeffersonville, Indiana), Audrey Mereday ’28 (Evansville, Indiana), Morgan Stauter ’27 (Scottsburg, Indiana), Alli Payne ’28 (Evansville, Indiana), Kris Carlos ’28 (Jeffersonville, Indiana), Kelsey Justice ’29 (Evansville, Indiana), Sabrina Mereday ’30 (Evansville, Indiana) and Chrislyn Miller ’29 (Bloomington, Indiana). Puppeteering for the show will be performed by Brady Roberts ’30 (Dillsboro, Indiana).
