USI student’s artwork featured at Santa Claus Post Office

November 3, 2022

Each year, it is a tradition in Santa Claus, Indiana, to feature a special postmark for the holiday season. For 2022, a University of Southern Indiana student contributed her creativity to the long-standing tradition.

The 2022 design was created by Macey Bolin, a USI freshman studying art, who submitted her design while still a high school student at Heritage Hills High School in Spencer County Indiana. The Santa Claus Post Office released the postmark artwork on November 1.

According to the Post Office, it is the only one in the world with the name Santa Claus and receives over 400,000 pieces of mail in December. The special postmark during the month of December has been offered every Christmas season since 1983. Bolin, along with other local high school art students, submitted designs as part of an annual contest.

“Patrons from all over the world request the Santa Claus holiday postmark. Some drive into town to personally hand [stamp] their holiday mail with the famous picture postmark and others request the special postmark by mail,” says Santa Claus Postmaster Cheryl Bailey. “The famous Santa Claus postmark is a long-standing tradition for the town and it’s always fun to see the unique artwork each year.”

If you’d like to have Bolin’s artwork featured on your holiday cards, be sure to check out these guidelines on how to prepare your envelopes. The picture postmark is available on Post Office working days between December 1 and 24.
