Food Hive opens Wednesday, February 25

February 24, 2026

Students and staff in the Health Professions and Science Center will now have a convenient location to grab a snack or healthy lunch option. The Food Hive, opening Wednesday, February 25 on the first floor of the Health Professions Center, in room 1008 (in the area linking Health Professions and Science Center), is a blend of convenience store, grocery store and grab’n’go with healthy selections.

“The goal with Food Hive is to bring some much- needed love to the north end of campus and have trending options available in a convenient location,” says Rebecca Diamond, Director of Dining Services.

Along with snack and grab-n-go food options, the Food Hive will house a Swirl location, which offers build-your-own açaí bowls with a choice of base, fruit and toppings. Other features will include a Serenade machine with Starbucks coffee, hot chocolate and Chai lattes, and a Smoodi machine, blending on-the-go smoothies at a guest’s request. Smoothie options will be made with 100% farm-grown real fruit, no processed foods and will be gluten free. There will also be some vegan options.

The shop will have made-daily Simply To Go items including breakfast and hot options along with the usual fare of sandwiches, salads, fruit cups and parfaits.

“Food Hive will also provide the latest in technology with a self-checkout register, Mashgin,” explains Diamond. “Guests will place their selected items on a tray and the machine will quickly scan and ring up all items. Guests will complete the transaction with a credit card or Eagle Access Card with Munch Money or Flex Funds.”

The Swirl and the Food Hive will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. After hours, the Food Hive can be accessed by anyone with a USI Eagle Access Card.
