New Creative and Print Center brings faster service, expanded possibilities to campus
New technology and a fresh space along Bluff Lane are helping USI Creative and Print deliver more possibilities while continuing to provide the design, printing and production services campus departments rely on.
An open house for the new facility is happening from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, September 1; all employees are encouraged to attend!
The dedicated space gives the team more room to work and houses upgraded digital technology designed to improve efficiency, turnaround times and cost-effectiveness.
"We have two digital presses now that run faster," says Amy Ubelhor, Director of University Creative and Print. "We also now own a larger flatbed so we can run multiple things at once, which results in faster printing."
The upgraded equipment also opens the door to new possibilities, she adds. The Creative and Print staff can work with a wider variety of materials thanks to the space’s upgraded tech; printing with white ink, producing materials on holographic paper and printing on surfaces including acrylic and window clings are just a few of the additional avenues available.
While the technology has expanded what is possible, the department’s core mission remains the same: providing high-quality creative services and printing at an affordable cost for the University community.
"In a world of cost optimization, we have the capabilities of designing and printing at a much lower rate than you would get outside of the University," says Ubelhor.
The Creative and Print Center provides a range of services, from graphic design and brochures to signage, banners, event materials, ribbons and specialty displays. A bonus to working with the team, adds Ubelhor, is that the department has access to all University brand assets and logos while bringing a wealth of knowledge about USI to any project they are given. Ubelhor and her staff also have technical expertise and knowledge of purchasing specifications to help guide projects. When a project does require outside production, Creative and Print works with established USI-licensed vendors to help ensure quality and value.
Another added benefit of the Creative and Print department? Being a more efficient option for departments to use for large copy jobs. "It's much more efficient for you if you're running a large amount of copies to get them printed at the Copy Center," says Ubelhor. “Submit the materials electronically, and we can have them delivered to you!”
At the open house on September 1, employees will be able to see how the new space allows the Creative and Print team to complete projects that help promote USI, programs, students and much more.
"I am excited for everyone to see this space,” says Ubelhor. “That and the technology really showcases what our team is able to provide the University community.”
