Computer Science is one of the fastest-growing fields in STEM—and a valuable complement to majors like mathematics, engineering, or computer information systems.
At USI, our Computer Science minor follows ACM guidelines for undergraduate education, ensuring a rigorous, industry-relevant curriculum. You’ll build technical expertise along with problem-solving, critical thinking, teamwork, and communication skills that employers consistently seek. A CS minor adds a highly marketable edge to your degree. Employers value graduates with software development skills, and USI alumni have gone on to successful careers with top regional companies such as OneMain Financial, Mead Johnson, Shoe Carnival, Berry Global, Vectren, and Old National Bank.
No matter your major, pairing it with Computer Science opens doors to exciting opportunities in technology and beyond.
An undergraduate student should initiate a Change of Academic Program if they wish to add or remove a minor.
The student obtains a Change of Academic Program form from the Registrar's Office or the department of the new major/minor, secures the signature of the department chair/director (or dean) of any major/minor to be added, and returns the form to the Registrar's Office for processing.
A student must submit the completed form by the Thursday before priority registration if the change is to be made within the current semester. Unless granted a waiver by the department of the new major, the student must meet all current program requirements for graduation.
A Computer Science minor enhances your degree with technical expertise that is valuable across industries. With skills in programming, problem-solving, and technology integration, you’ll be prepared for opportunities in areas such as software development, data analysis, IT support, cybersecurity, and web or application development. Pairing computer science with your major gives you a competitive edge and broadens your career possibilities in today’s tech-driven world.
