Spanish Teaching Concentration Overview

The P-12 Spanish teaching concentration prepares you with language and cultural skills as well as teaching methodologies to become an effective Spanish teacher. From the start, you can enroll in a practicum at a local elementary after-school program, teaching Spanish. In addition, you can combine your teaching licensure with a TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) certificate to enhance your marketability. All of your courses are taught by highly qualified PhD faculty. You’ll be able to practice your oral skills in the Miller Language Laboratory, staffed by native/near-native language tutors. USI offers international language events, guest speakers, language clubs and honor societies. USI highly encourages teaching majors to study abroad at one of USI’s partner institutions (same as on-campus tuition costs). Scholarships are also available to Spanish students.
