The Essence of Excellence Summit is an inclusive program designed to address topics relevant to students at the University, especially those of an underrepresented population. All students are welcome. Workshops discuss, teach and provide students with knowledge and application pertaining to a specific skill or topic that will aid in their success during their collegiate journey and beyond.

Call for Proposals

USI’s Multicultural Center is excited to announce that our 14th annual Essence of Excellence Summit is now accepting workshop proposals. This year’s theme: “Developing Your Blueprint” aims to provide students especially those of a historically underserved background with the knowledge, tools, and skills to achieve a better version of themselves. The Essence of Excellence Summit is an inclusive program designed to address topics relevant to participants.

Categories include:

Social and Emotional Health

This category explores the importance of forming secure relationships as well as experiencing and regulating emotions. The importance of developing strong social and emotional health is important for success in college and beyond.

Organization/Time Management/Planning/Goal Setting

Students often try to balance academics, social life, athletics, family, mental health, and so much more without the correct tools or knowledge to do so. For students, lack of time management skills in college could lead to an impediment to success. Proposals submitted to this category should provide participants with tangible time management tools for success.

 Software/Technology Skills

Technology continues to advance at a rapid pace, and companies across the globe are emphasizing the importance of computer software skills. This topic category should discuss, teach, or provide students’ knowledge around specific software that will aid in their success during their collegiate journey and beyond the classroom.

 Professional Development

Professional Development is a form of continued growth, and students can never have enough growth for success! These soft skills support students in their everyday journey of becoming a better version of themselves. Topics on professional development can include LinkedIn, résumé, email etiquette, public speaking, personal branding etc.

Presenters are invited to submit proposal(s) to any of the categories above. When submitting a proposal, we ask for 250 words related to the learning outcomes of your session that includes the explanation of the topic and focus of the material. In advance, we appreciate and value any time and energy that is given to ensure future success.

Proposals are due by August 11, 2025.

Essence of Excellence Summit Schedule

Network Session (3-3:45pm):

This session has the goal of instructing our students in "The Art of Networking". This is a desired and useful skill that we hope to impart to our students for their future professional endeavors. The room will be arranged with bistro tables for general conversation and mingling and will also include the capturing of professional headshots.

Keynote Speaker/Dinner (4pm - 4:45pm)

Attendees will enjoy a short program that includes an inspirational speech by a keynote speaker.

Workshop Sessions (5pm-7pm):

Our workshop sessions offer another avenue to direct and enlighten attendees on a variety of topics geared toward growth and learning. Workshops are meant to be highly interactive. Though lecture is traditionally a part of the process, application and practice is the engaging opportunity that leaves a lasting participant experience.

Order in the Court (Moderated Chat) (7:15 -7:45pm):

This is the culmination of our evening and will be focused on reflection and imparting final words of wisdom to the students for the personal and professional journey ahead.
