Due to inclement weather, the University of Southern Indiana campus will be closed, and all in-person classes, activities and on-campus events are canceled beginning at noon Saturday, January 24 and continuing through Sunday, January 25. Letters to a Pre-Scientist is a non-profit organization that pairs students to professional pen pals in a STEM field of their choice, where I have volunteered as one of these pen pals. This organization is a great way to encourage scientific engagement in the youth community on a one-on-one basis.
The You be the Chemist Challenge is sponsored by the Chemical Education Foundation and is an opportunity for students grade 5–8 to compete on a regional or even national scale. This challenge consists of an examination of chemistry knowledge and a video exploring a yearly theme. Details for the Evansville Regional Challenge can be found at this link.
The Evansville Museum is a fantastic institution dedicated to public education. The Chemistry and Biochemistry faculty at USI make an annual appearance at the museum for Mole Day. Come out and see our show!
