Getting From Here To There: The Story of The Buffalo Trace Workshop

Geared toward 3rd, 4th & 5th grade teachers and interested members of the public, this workshop will introduce the story of Indiana’s unique Buffalo Trace to attendees through speakers, lesson plans, and a teacher panel about innovative classroom learning ideas.

  • Buffalo Trace – David Ruckman, title boundary surveyor and author of Buffalo Trace: The Indiana Wilderness Road
     
  • The Role of Fire – Dan McGuckin, certified forester
     
  • Surveyor’s Snapshot of Indiana in the 1800s – A.J. Ariens, Forest Archaeologist, Indiana Department of Natural Resources
     
  • Cemeteries as a Teaching Tool – Noah Sandweiss, Cemetery Register Coordinator, State Division of Historic Preservation and Archaeology
     
  • Indiana’s Railroad History – David Nord, Professor Emeritus, Indiana University
     
  • Interactive Teacher Panel – Glenda Ferguson, former 4th grade teacher at Burris Elementary School
