Beyin to discuss his research on early human dispersal

March 23, 2015

Dr. Amanuel Beyin, lecturer in Liberal Arts at the University of Southern Indiana, will present a Spring 2015 College of Liberal Arts Colloquium on "Tracking Early Human Dispersal Routes out of Africa" from 3 to 4:15 p.m. Friday, March 27, in Kleymeyer Hall in the Liberal Arts Center.

There is a growing anthropological consensus on African origin of modern humans sometime between 200 and 150 thousand years ago, but the timing and the geographic routes along which they migrated out of Africa have never been resolved. Drawing on existing archaeological, fossil and genetic datasets, this talk will present current perspectives on the timing and geographic contexts of early human dispersals out of Africa. The concept of "dispersal" - as a prime mover of people and ideas - will be highlighted in light of its contribution to global theoretical debates surrounding current patterns of human diversity and adaptation.

The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.
